Hello bullfamily,
Today, our blog will be a guide dedicated to bulldog owners who want to take their furry companions to the beach!
As we gear up for the upcoming summer adventures, we want to share some essential tips with you to ensure a safe and enjoyable vacation for your bullies:
1. Consider the weather conditions:
- Avoid intense heat: Bulldogs are particularly sensitive to heat and can suffer from heat strokes. Avoid taking them to the beach during the hottest hours of the day (generally from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM) and make sure they always have access to shade and fresh water. Ensure they are not excessively hot on their fur and make sure they are not panting excessively.
- Protect from the sun: Bulldog skin is delicate and susceptible to sunburn. Apply a dog-specific sunscreen, especially on the nose, paws, and groin area following the veterinarian's advice, to protect exposed skin from UV rays.
2. Water safety:
- Precautions for non-swimmer bulldogs: Many bulldogs are not proficient swimmers and may struggle to float even with a life jacket. Make sure to provide your bulldog with a life jacket specifically designed for dogs to ensure their safety in the water. Even when in the water, ensure they keep their head above water, and stay close at all times.
- Provide a safe water area: Look for a sea area or beach with shallow waters and no strong currents. This will allow your bulldog to swim safely.
3. Skin care:
- Gentle cleaning: After a day at the beach, it's important to clean your bulldog's fur to remove sand, salt, and other residues. Rinse with plenty of water to remove sand, then use a gentle shampoo, following the advice we provided in our previous article. Make sure it's a shampoo suitable for frequent washing. If you haven't bought any yet, we recommend our Hydrobull, which also has soothing, calming, and healing properties to prevent redness and dermatitis.
- Thorough drying: Make sure to thoroughly dry your bulldog after the bath to avoid skin irritations or moisture-related infections. Use a soft towel or a low-temperature hairdryer to dry the fur. Avoid excessive rubbing, as it could cause irritations and injuries.
Taking your bulldog to the beach can be a fun experience, but it requires attention and special precautions. Remember to protect your bulldog from heat and sunlight, ensure their safety in the water, and take care of their sensitive skin after the bath.
With these precautions, you can fully enjoy your beach vacation. And, to make sure you don't miss anything, we also have a beautiful gift for you: we've created a checklist with everything you need to take your bullies to the beach. A list of all the essentials that you can download below!
